Oldsmobile was among the first vehicles that were offered by General Motors. Originally introduced in 1897 by Ransom E. Olds, Oldsmobile joined the General Motors group in 1908 presenting models M, X and Z for public sale. Many new models and innovations were offered by Oldsmobile in the years to follow which included the hydramatic fully automatic transmission in 1940. The following year, the model 98 debuted with the available hydramatic transmission and an overhead valve six cylinder engine. In 1949, the rocket V8 engine was added to Oldsmobile line, a full six years ahead of Chevrolets V8 offering. With the addition of the new rocket V8 engine and hydramatic transmission, the Oldsmobile 98 soon emerged as the full-sized flagship luxury offering second only to the Cadillac.
This 1973 Oldsmobile 98 is an excellent survivor example of a two door hardtop North Carolina car which was brought to New York by an enthusiast. Since relocating here approximately 29 years ago, this black-on-black beauty has had only two owners. Both were classic car enthusiasts only driving this Oldsmobile to shows and cruise nights. The body has had one older repaint which shows some minor flaws but still presents an excellent overall appearance. The body is rust free and shows no indications of ever having had collision damage. The chrome trim and bumpers show very nicely and are in well cared for original condition. Whitewall radial tires, wire wheel covers, and factory fender skirts top off the elegant look this classic 98 presents. Weighing in at about 4,500 pounds and measuring 230 inches in length, this stunning classic smoothly floats down the highway as though you were riding on air. The 455ci engine was replaced with a period correct 455ci engine about six years ago and supplies plentiful power on demand. Speaking of power, our Oldsmobile 98 is equipped with full power options to include power steering, power disc brakes, power front seat and windows, tilt steering column and air conditioning. The dash is padded, has simulated woodgrain inserts and the instrumentation along with the factory AM/FM radio are in well preserved condition. The black vinyl interior with its factory cloth inserted seats shows beautifully with minimal wear appearing on the upholstery piping at the driver's seat bottom area. As one might expect to see in a pampered southern car, the floors and trunk floor areas are also in solid original condition. Showing only 83,463 miles, this classic Oldsmobile 98 is an excellent value for you to consider. Come in and have a look, you are bound to be impressed.
